2022-2023 proved to be another outstanding year. Students came back with an enthusiasm and commitment and worked closely with faculty mentors in independent research projects. Your dedication and hard work led to a number of accolades, honors and awards.

Caitlin Brabblerose was recipient of this year’s UNC Charlotte Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award. Megan Mitchem was chosen as a 2023 NSF Graduate Research Fellow Caitlin Brabblerose was awarded Outstanding Presentation by a Graduate Student, SACNAS National Diversity in STEM Conference, and received a SACNAS Travel Scholarship to attend the meeting. Ping Yates was awarded First Prize Winner of the Survey- Management Section at the National Soybean Nematode Conference Graduate- Young Professional Poster Competition, received a graduate travel fund for travel to National Soybean Nematode Conference, and awarded first place in the poster Presentation National Soybean Nematode Conference. Caroline French received a Travel Award to the FASEB Meeting on Mammalian DNA Repair and Recombination. Ruth Wright received a LUMICON Graduate Student Fellowship and a SACNAS Travel Scholarship to attend the annual meeting. Kaitlin Klotz received a SACNAS Travel Scholarship to attend the annual meeting Farida Yasmin received the Thomas L. Reynolds Graduate Research Award and the Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Graduate Student Fellowship. Our graduate students who presented at the Annual Graduate Student Symposium. Invited to membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society: Yuleny Gomez Rodriguez, Rei Rama, Madison Snyder, Mckenzie Miller, Yashushi Yang, Rachel Hayes & Patrick Deegan. Ainella Rysbayeva was awarded the prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship to work in the lab of Andy Truman studying the role of the Hsp70 chaperone code on prion propagation. Ainella Rysbayeva was the Honors College recipient of the Delbridge E Narron Scholarship & Travel Award. Kayla Skinner received an IRTA Post-baccalaureate award to join Dr. Steven Holland’s lab (Lab of Clinical Imm & Micro; NIAID) for the next 2 years. Kirthi Kaushik is the 2023 Marian Beane Crossing Borders Writing Competition Undergraduate Student Winner Kathryn Brinegar received a SACNAS Travel Scholarship to attend the annual meeting.
