Doctoral Student

Nirav received his B.S. Degree in Biotechnology and his M.S. degree in Bioinformatics from Sardar Patel University. Nirav completed his M.S. dissertation in Microbiology at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, India. Nirav joined as a doctoral student in Dr. Grdzelishvili’s laboratory at UNC Charlotte. This laboratory focuses on negative strand RNA viruses, specifically Vesicular Stomatitis Virus and Sendai Virus. Nirav is investigating the role of ribavirin a prescribed drug used for treating HCV, on inhibiting VSV and SeV replication in vitro. He works with several cell lines from different origins to infect them with viruses. He also uses few other broad spectrum antiviral drugs for the same.
