Research Interests:

Dr. Bahrani-Mougeot’s research has revolved around understanding of the molecular mechanisms of various human infectious diseases caused by bacterial pathogens. The results of some of her previous studies have laid the groundwork for ongoing vaccine development against common uropathogens including Proteus mirabilis and E.coli and the design of anti-pathogenicity molecules against the enteric bacterial pathogens such as Shigella flexneri. Her most recent work has focused on the identification of diverse and novel bacterial pathogens involved in pneumonia, characterization of the bacteremia following dental procedures, and identification of the causative agents of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis.
